UNESCO recognizes Karnataka Janapada Parishath and Yakshagana Mandali

Both the Karnataka Janapada Parishath and the Sri Idagunji Mahaganapati Yakshagana Mandali have been recognized by UNESCO for their efforts in preserving intangible cultural heritage.

Karnataka Janapada Parishath: The Karnataka Janapada Parishath is an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich folk culture of Karnataka. Established: Founded in 1979 by H.L. Nagegowda.

Mission: To preserve, propagate, and rejuvenate Karnataka's folk culture. Activities: Conducts research, documentation, archiving, exhibitions, and publications related to folk traditions. Programs: Organizes various programs, including dance, music, and art exhibitions, to showcase Karnataka's folk heritage.

Sri Idagunji Mahaganapati Yakshagana Mandali: The Sri Idagunji Mahaganapati Yakshagana Mandali is a renowned Yakshagana troupe based in Gunavante, Honnavar Taluk, Karnataka. Established: Founded in 1934 by Keremane Shivarama Hegde, a prominent Yakshagana artist. Leadership: Currently led by Keremane Shivananda Hegde, the grandson of the founder.

Mission: Dedicated to preserving, promoting, and performing Yakshagana, an ancient dance-drama tradition. Performances: The troupe enacts episodes from Indian epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Training: Offers training programs through its Gurukula (traditional school) to teach Yakshagana to new generations
