A fascinating discovery has been made in Kerala, where over 110 megalithic structures have been unearthed near the Malampuzha Dam in Palakkad district.
1. Discovery Details:
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) conducted the excavation and identified these structures spread across 45 hectares of land.
The megaliths are primarily burial sites, including cists (single and multiple-chambered), stone circles, urns, dolmens, and dolmenoid cists.
2. Construction Materials:
The structures are built using massive granite slabs and boulders, with some incorporating laterite stones.
3. Significance:
These findings are expected to provide new insights into the early Iron Age societies of Kerala, shedding light on their burial practices, belief systems, and social structures.
