The National Mission on Libraries (NML) is an initiative by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, aimed at modernizing and digitally linking nearly 9,000 libraries across the country.
The mission is overseen by the Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture.
Launched in 2013, the mission seeks to provide readers with better access to books and information. Key Components: National Virtual Library of India (NVLI): A digital repository of resources, including books, journals, and other materials.
Model Libraries: Upgrading six Ministry libraries, 35 state central libraries, 35 district libraries, and 629 district libraries with network connectivity. Library Survey: Conducting a survey of 5,000 libraries to gather data on infrastructure, resources, and usage.
Capacity Building:
Training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of library staff. Objectives: Modernization: Upgrading library infrastructure and technology.
