Minorities Rights Day

Minorities Rights Day is observed annually on December 18. This day commemorates the adoption of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious, and Linguistic Minorities on December 18, 1992.

History: Adoption Date: December 18, 1992. India's Recognition: Officially recognized in India in 2013.

Theme for 2024: “Promoting Diversity and Protecting Rights”: This year's theme emphasizes the importance of creating a more inclusive and just society

Constitutional Protections: Indian Constitution: Articles 15, 16, 29, and 30 ensure equality and protection against discrimination for minorities.

Article 30(2): Ensures that the state shall not discriminate against any educational institution in granting aid on the ground that it is under the management of a minority.
