Karnataka to make Chief Minister chancellor of RDPR university

The Karnataka Cabinet has approved a draft bill to make the Chief Minister the Chancellor of the Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University (KSRDPRU), replacing the Governor.

This move is aimed at streamlining the decision-making process and making the university more efficient. The KSRDPRU was established in Gadag in 2016 to focus on education towards rural development.

 Amendment: The Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Draft Bill, 2024 proposes transferring the Governor's powers to the Chief Minister.

The Cabinet took the decision because the university was directly related to administration, panchayat administration, and rural development.
