Karnataka’s new biodiversity heritage site

The Karnataka government has declared a 1,495-acre forest in Mamadapur, Vijayapura district as a biodiversity heritage site.

Name: The site has been named Shri Siddeshwara Swamiji Biodiversity Heritage Site.

Purpose: The declaration aims to conserve the rich biodiversity of the region, including various species of flora and fauna.

Species: The forest is home to species such as the leopard, Indian fox, hyena, and numerous bird species.

Inauguration: The site will be officially inaugurated on January 2, 2025, coinciding with the second death anniversary of the late spiritual leader Siddeshwara Swami. 

Significance: This declaration is part of the state's efforts to enhance the protection and scientific management of its natural resources.
