Karnataka govt clears new tourism policy

The Karnataka cabinet cleared the new tourism policy for the state, with the government eyeing investments to the tune of Rs 1,500 crore in the sector.

The policy, which will be in effect until 2029, has ambitious targets to boost both domestic and international tourism.

Key Objectives:

Increase Domestic Tourism: The policy aims to increase domestic tourist visits from 28 crore to 48 crore annually.

Boost Foreign Tourism: Plans to increase foreign tourist visits from 4 lakh to 20 lakh annually.

Investment Goals: Seeks to attract private investments through incentives and subsidies. 

Tourism Themes: Focuses on 25 niche tourism themes, including adventure tourism, cultural tourism, coastal tourism, and more.

Job Creation: Aims to create 47,000 direct jobs and over one lakh indirect jobs. Key Initiatives: Tourism Investment Facilitation Cell: A nodal agency to facilitate and monitor investments.

This policy is part of Karnataka's broader vision to become a top destination for both domestic and international tourists, contributing to its goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2032.
