India reported half of malaria cases in Southeast Asia

According to the World Health Organization's (WHO) World Malaria Report 2024, India accounted for half of all estimated malaria cases in the Southeast Asia Region in 2023.

Malaria Cases in Southeast Asia: 

 The Southeast Asia Region reported an estimated 4 million malaria cases in 2023. India accounted for half of these cases, meaning 2 million cases were reported in India.

Progress in Reducing Malaria:

 Despite the high number of cases, India has made significant progress in reducing malaria incidence and deaths over the years. Malaria deaths in the region have decreased by 82.9% since 2000.
