India Assumes Chairmanship of Asian Productivity Organization
•India has officially assumed the Chairmanship of the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) for the 2025–26 term during the 67th Governing Body Meeting (GBM) held in Jakarta, Indonesia from May 20–22, 2025.
1. About the Asian Productivity Organization (APO)
•Established in 1961, the APO is a Tokyo-based intergovernmental body.
•It promotes productivity enhancement across the Asia-Pacific region through mutual cooperation and capacity building.
•The APO currently has 21 member economies, including India, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, and others.
2. India’s Role in APO
•India is a founding member of the APO and has played a pivotal role in shaping its vision.
•The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) represents India in the APO.
