Govt. committed to increasing Almatti dam height, says CM

The Chief Minister recently reaffirmed the government's commitment to increasing the height of the Almatti dam.

Current Status: Current Height: The dam's present height is 519.6 meters (1705 feet). Proposed Increase: Proposed Height: Increase to 524.256 meters (1719 feet).

Purpose: Enhance water storage capacity and ensure sufficient water for irrigation, drinking, and industrial use. Legal and Administrative Approvals: Necessary permissions from the Central Water Commission and other authorities are being pursued.

Legal and Administrative Aspects: Krishna River Dispute: The height increase was authorized by the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal to resolve disputes between Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra.

Power Generation: Capacity: 290 MW. Annual Output: Target of 560 MU (Million Units).

Irrigation: Upper Krishna Irrigation Project: Almatti Dam is the main reservoir of this project. Water Release: Water is released into the Narayanpur reservoir after power generation to serve downstream irrigation needs.
