Former SC judge named human rights panel chief

Former Supreme Court judge V. Ramasubramanian has been appointed as the new chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

Appointment of the chairperson: The chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is appointed by the President of India based on the recommendations of a high-powered selection committee.

Appointment Process: Selection Committee: The committee is headed by the Prime Minister and includes the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, the Home Minister, the Leader of the Opposition in both Houses of Parliament, and the Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha.
