It was established in 1974 to protect the blackbuck population.
Wildlife: The sanctuary is home to a large population of blackbucks, with a count of over 6000 in the 2005 census.
Other mammals include wolves, wild boars, foxes, jackals, langurs, porcupines, and pangolins. Birds: The sanctuary is also a good spot for bird watching, with species like black drongo, sirkeer cuckoo, peafowl, and large grey babbler.
