About the Sashastra Seema Bal The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) is a Central Armed Police Force in India under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Formation: Established on December 20, 1963, originally named the Special Service Bureau (SSB).

Motto: "Service, Security and Brotherhood". Primary Role: Guarding India's borders with Nepal and Bhutan. Headquarters: Located in New Delhi.

Director General: Currently led by Amrit Mohan Prasad, IPS. Personnel: Approximately 94,261 active personnel. Annual Budget: Around ₹7,428.33 crore (US$890.1 million) for the fiscal year 2024-2025.

Recognition: Awarded the President’s Colours in March 2004 for its role in national security.

Operations: SSB guards unfenced borders and has managed to stop human trafficking, smuggling of narcotics, firearms, and fake currency, and has thwarted anti-Indian elements from entering the country.
