The 37th Kathak Mahotsav 2025, organized by the Kathak Kendra, concluded successfully in New Delhi.

 The festival was held from March 21 to March 26, 2025. 2. Highlights: Featured the world’s first-ever Kathak Literary Festival, showcasing the rich literary heritage of Kathak.

About Kathak dance Kathak is one of the eight classical dance forms of India, known for its intricate footwork, graceful spins, expressive gestures, and storytelling through movement.

The word "Kathak" is derived from the Sanskrit word katha, meaning story, and Kathak dancers were traditionally storytellers who performed in temples, royal courts, and public gatherings.

Key Features of Kathak: 1. 

Storytelling Roots: Kathak originated as a form of devotional storytelling in North India, narrating tales from epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana.

2. Gharanas: 

 There are four major Kathak gharanas (schools): Lucknow, Jaipur, Banaras, and Raigarh. Each has unique techniques and styles: Lucknow Gharana: Emphasizes grace and expression (abhinaya).

Jaipur Gharana: 

Focuses on vigorous footwork and rhythmic patterns. Banaras Gharana: Known for its devotional themes and fluid movements. Raigarh Gharana: A newer gharana that blends theatrical elements.

Music and Accompaniment:

 Kathak performances are accompanied by classical Hindustani music using instruments like the tabla, sitar, sarangi, and harmonium.
